January Prompts
One of the most common questions I get about journaling every day is “what do I even write about!?” I write about literally anything and everything in my life - what I’ve been up to, what I want to do, what’s happening in nature, something silly my pet did. I get it though, some days the inspiration isn’t there, even though you’ve got everything prepared to get to journaling. Here are five things I’m including in my journal for January, my hope is it serves as a creative spark for you.
Word of the year - I love setting an intention for the year and bringing it down to a single word. I like to pair my word with an image and put it on the very front page of my journal. This year, I’m leaning towards to word “embrace” as my intention of the year.
Goal mind map - I like using a visual a mind map as a visual way to set goals. I put myself in the middle, have a few key branches like health, career, and relationships, and then a few goals that stem from there.
About me - Obviously, I don’t need to introduce myself to myself, but it is fun to include a “time capsule” of where I’m at for when I look back. I like to include my age, where I’m living, which pets I have, and my current favorite flavor of ice cream. It’s a fun way to set the stage when I revisit my journals.
Bucket list - I like to dream big at the start of the year because I never know what opportunities may arise!
Current cost of consumer goods - This is one of my most favorite things to revisit in my journal - remember the egg crisis when they cost over $10 a dozen? I use the Bureau of Labor and Statistics website to get the current consumer index and jot the cost of things like milk, eggs, a car, movie ticket, etc. It’s so silly, but always a fun time capsule.
Don’t forget to tag me on Instagram @thefeatheredjournal if you include any of these in your journals.
